Hi! From 2 to 8 February I was in Gambia to participate in the periodic meeting of BORASSUS, an international project which associates researchers from four continents and ten countries. The initiative concerns scientific research ( forestry, agriculture, soil protection, ecology ) and socio-economic aspect through the involvement of local rural communities. Main objective: the preservation of soils through the application of geo-textile mats.

 

Ciao ! Dal 2 all’ 8 Febbraio sono stato in Gambia per partecipare ad una Conferenza internazionale legata al Progetto BORASSUS che, tramite l’applicazione al suolo di pannelli geotessili, protegge i terreni dalla corrosione, incrementa le rese agricole ed associa nella produzione dei pannelli le comunità rurali di diversi Paesi in via di sviluppo. 

 

During the flight I enjoyed extraordinary views of the Sahara desert and at the end, the coast of Gambia appeared !

 

Durante il volo ho goduto di spettacoli straordinari offerti dal deserto del Sahara. All fine, è apparsa la costa del Gambia !

 

 

Gambia is a fantastic natural reserve and a paradise for bird-watchers. Its people are extremely friendly, hospitable and seem to enjoy life beyond the serious social problems which affect the country.

 

Il Gambia è una fantastica riserva naturale ed un paradiso per gli osservatori delle specie avicole. La gente è amichevole e ospitale, sorridente nonostante le severe condizioni economiche.

 

 

 

 

During field excursions the local rural communities welcomed the project participants with music and dances.

 

Nel corso di alcune escursioni, le comunità agricole locali hanno accolto i visitatori con musiche e danze.

 

             

 

I also had the opportunity to assist to the Sunday service in a Catholic Church, with music and songs.

 

Ho anche avuto modo di assistere alla Messa domenicale in una Chiese cattolica, con musica e canti.
