Visit to India_November 2008
Hi ! Mid-November I was in India to take part in the kick-off meeting of a project concerning EU/India scientific cooperation. I had the chance to meet very interesting people and to get the flavour of a fascinating and still mysterious Country.
Ciao! A metà Novembre sono stato in India per partecipare al lancio di un progetto finalizzato allo sviluppo della cooperazione scientifica tra l’ Unione europea e l’India. Ho avuto il privilegio di incontrare tanta gente interessante e di avvertire l’aroma esotico di un Paese affascinante ed ancora tanto misterioso.
India has a profound cultural diversity. And this is contributed much by the coexistence of a number of religions and customs. The variety od cultural heritage, the vitality of people, the beauty of nature speak to the visitor with a unique language.
L’ India affonda le sue radici in una immensa diversità culturale: vi ha contribuito significativamente la coesistenza di numerose religioni, usi e costumi. La ricchezza del patrimonio artistico e culturale, la vitalità della popolazione, la bellezza della natura parlano al visitatore con un linguaggio seducente.
Of course I found the time to go and vist the Taj Mahal, the Temple of Beauty and Love. Completed in 1653, was built by the Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan as the final resting place for his beloved Queen Mumtaz. This perfectly symmetrical monument took 22 years of hard labour for 20.000 workers, masons and artistis. It is set amidst landscaped gardens. Seeming to be floating in the air from a distance as one enters through the main gate. Verses of the Coran are inscribed on it and at the top of the entrance gate 22 domes symbolise the years it needed to be built.
Naturalmente ho trovato il tempo per visitare il Taj Mahal, il tempio della bellezza e dell’ amore, completato nel 1653 dall’ Imperatore Moghul Shah Janan per accogliere i resti della sua amatissima sposa, la regina Mumtaz. Sono occorsi 22 anni del lavoro di 20.000 operai, artigiani ed artisti per realizzare il complesso architettonico ed i giardini circostanti. Quando se ne intravedono le forme, attraverso le porte di accesso, sembra che flotti a mezz’aria. E’ decorato da versetti del Corano: le ventidue cupole in cima alla porta di accesso simbolizzano gli anni di lavoro impiegati ad edificarlo.

Incontrare i giovani e godere del colore della vita quotidiana contribuisce a rafforzare la gioia di questa esperienza.
Four kilometers from Agra is the mausoleum of Akbar. The construction of this beautiful monument was started by Akbar himself in the year 1600. This structure is a perfect blend of Hindu, Christian, Islamic, Buddhist and Jain motifs. But Akbar died before his mausoleum could be completed and his son Jehangir completed it. Jehangir made many modifications in the original plan of the building. The structure gives an excellent idea as to how the Moghul art was developing. The tomb has three-storey-minarets on its four corners. These minarets are built in red sandstone with stunning inlay work of marble. And of course langur monkeys wait on the walkways to be fed. The mausoleum is surrounded by a beautiful garden populated by elegant gazelles.
Il mausoleo dell’ Imperatore Moghul Akbar si trova a soli quattro chilometri da Agra: Akbar stesso ne inizio’ la costruzione nel 1600: ne è derivata una perfetta fusione di stili che spaziano dai motivi Indu’ a quelli scristiani, islamici, buddisti e jain. L’ Imperatore mori’ prima di aver portato a termine l’opera che venne completata dal figlio Jehangir, che vi apporto’ delle modifiche, testimoniando l’evoluzione dell’ arte Moghul. La tomba è ornata da quattro minareti di arenaria rossa con variazioni in marmo. Lungo i viali si aggirano numerose scimmie. Il mausoleo è circondato da un immenso parco popolato da agili gazzelle.
Jaigurudeo Temple in Mathura: is constructed by Gerat Saint Baba Jaigurudeo. It is open to all religions. It is a unique temple in that people are prohibited from donating if they are non-vegeterians.
Il Tempio costruito da Baba Jaigurudeo a Mathura è aperto a tutte le religioni. I non-vegetariani sono pregati di non fare offerte.
Back in Delhi, enjoying the Red Fort, other touristic attractions, beautiful crowded roads, small colourful lanes, permanent traffic and its noisy day-by-day life.
Di ritorno a Delhi, si puo’ ammirare il Forte Rosso, altre numerosissime attrazioni turistiche, ampie popolatissime strade risonanti per il traffico intenso e costante, vicoli pieni di colore, una pulsante inarrestabile vita quotidiana.
The Qutub Minar, one of the outstanding Delhi monuments, is the world’s tallest free standing minaret. It is surrounded by a complex of buildings dating back up to the 12th century.
Qutub Minar, uno dei più impressionanti edifici di Delhi, è il minareto non sostenuto da altro edificio più alto al mondo. E’ circondato da meravigliose costruzioni alcune delle quali risalgono al dodicesimo secolo.
